Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 11, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Nashville Scene
(“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses,
and shares information when you use the Nashville Scene Food Weeks mobile application (the
“App”). By using the App, you agree to the terms of this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information you provide
- Email address. Used to create and authenticate your
account via a one-time email sign-in link.
- Username. A display name you choose during signup,
visible to other users on the public activity feed.
- Photos. When you complete a restaurant check-in or a
photo task, you may attach a photo taken with the camera or selected
from your photo library. Approved photos may appear on the
App’s public activity feed alongside your username, and are
licensed to us as described in Section 5 below.
- Marketing preferences. Optional opt-in flags for
newsletter and sponsor communications, which you can toggle at any time
from the Preferences screen.
1.2 Information collected automatically
- Device location. The App uses your device’s
precise location only when you tap “Check In” at a restaurant,
in order to verify that you are at the restaurant. Location is checked
locally on your device and is not stored on our servers unless the check-in
is submitted, in which case the latitude and longitude of the check-in
location are recorded with the check-in record.
- Push notification token. If you grant notification
permission, we store a device-specific push token so we can send event
updates. You can revoke notification permission at any time in your
device settings.
- Analytics events. We record anonymized in-app
interactions (screen views, taps on listings) to understand how the App
is used. These events are not tied to your real-world identity.
2. Permissions We Request
- Camera. To take photos for restaurant check-ins.
- Photo Library. To select existing photos for restaurant check-ins.
- Precise Location. To verify you are at a restaurant when you check in.
- Push Notifications. To deliver event reminders and updates.
Each permission is requested only when the related feature is used. You may
deny any permission and continue to use the rest of the App.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate your account and maintain your session.
- To record and verify check-ins at participating restaurants.
- To award points and surface your standing in event leaderboards.
- To display approved photos on the public activity feed.
- To send event-related notifications you have opted into.
- To improve the App and diagnose technical issues.
4. How We Share Your Information
We share information only as described below:
- Public activity feed. Your username and any check-in
photo that an event moderator approves and selects for the feed
will be visible to other users of the App.
- Service providers. We use Google Firebase
(Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, Hosting,
Storage) to operate the App. Information you submit is stored on Firebase
infrastructure under our project. See Google’s
Firebase Privacy
Disclosure for details.
- Sponsors (only with your explicit opt-in). If you
opt in to sponsor marketing, we may share your email address with the
event’s sponsors so they can contact you about offers. You can
revoke this opt-in at any time.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose information when
required by law or to protect our rights.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. License to Uploaded Photos
By submitting a photo through the App, you grant FW Publishing
LLC and its affiliates, together with the event’s sponsors,
organizers, and media partners (collectively, the “Authorized
Parties”), a non-exclusive, royalty-free, fully paid-up, worldwide,
perpetual, irrevocable, sublicensable, and transferable license to use,
reproduce, distribute, publicly display, adapt, crop, and otherwise
exploit that photo, in whole or in part, in any media or format now known
or hereafter devised, for any legitimate purpose — including,
without limitation, the operation and promotion of the App, the event
series, and related publications — without further notice,
consent, compensation, or attribution.
You represent and warrant that you own or otherwise control all rights in
and to each photo you submit; that you have obtained any consents required
from identifiable individuals appearing in it; and that its use by the
Authorized Parties as described above will not violate the rights of any
third party. This license survives the deletion of your account or of the
photo from the App; if you ask us to remove a photo, the Authorized
Parties will make commercially reasonable efforts to discontinue new uses
of it going forward.
6. Data Retention
We retain account information for as long as your account is active.
Check-in records and approved feed photos are retained for the duration of
the event series and may be archived afterward. You can request deletion
of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at the
address below.
7. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect
personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has
provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will
delete it.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or
delete personal information we hold about you, or to object to our
processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top
of this page indicates when it was last revised. Material changes will be
communicated within the App or via the email address associated with your
account.
